(Brussels) The Brexit issue, which is dividing the UK and is far from being resolved, returns to the European Parliament. On Thursday, 12 September, the President of the European Parliament, David Maria Sassoli, and political groups’ leaders (the Conference of Presidents) will discuss with EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier (pictured) the state of play in the Brexit process. Also next week, political groups will prepare for the 16-19 September session in Strasbourg, where MEPs will debate the Council’s proposal for the EU budget for 2020 and vote on whether to recommend Christine Lagarde as the new President of the European Central Bank. MEPs will also be voting on the mobilisation of 293.5 million euros from the EU Solidarity Fund for natural disaster aid in Italy, Romania and Austria. In addition, political groups will draft their written questions to commissioner-designates, in the run-up to the parliamentary hearings that will be held in early October.
