Today, on the Solemnity of the Annunciation of our Lord, Spain celebrates the Day for Life under the motto “Love protects life”. The Archdiocese of Madrid will mark the Day with a Eucharistic celebration at the Collegiate Church of San Isidro at 7pm and a prayer vigil presided over by Cardinal Carlos Osoro, Archbishop of Madrid. During the Mass, pregnant women will be blessed and volunteers committed to the protection of life will be sent forth.
In a letter to parishes, movements and associations, the delegates of the laity, family and life of the Archdiocese recall that “for love God has taken upon Himself any human situation and wants to communicate the greatest thing: ‘He has come that they may have life, and have it abundantly’, and this moves us to show unconditional love in all concrete situations of our lives”. In their message, the bishops of the Episcopal Subcommittee for the Family and the Defence of Life acknowledge that life “comes from God’s love and for this reason should be welcomed and recognised as worthy of love”. Thus “no human life deserves to be eliminated or disposed of”.
